Detox And Cleansers-Do They Work

Many toxins are in our environment that did not exist fifty to seventy-five years ago. Most of us need a body detox cleanse. Over 80,000 chemicals exist in our environment today.

Environmental Toxins

Each year, more chemicals are introduced into the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the foods we eat.

Chemicals when in their own element may not be so harmful, but when mixed with other chemicals can be very toxic. Aging compounds the toxicity of the body. We are exposed sometimes on a daily basis to dangerous elements such as mercury, lead, aluminum, arsenic, and cadmium.

It has been stated that we carry over 700 contaminants in our body.

For every issue we have in our society today, there is a quick fix to eliminate pests, such as insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, air fresheners, and the such.

The air we breathe is saturated with factory waste, (in the air and in our streams), gas and diesel fumes, tire deterioration from road wear, carpet chemicals, and polluted air.

We are what we eat and drink. Processed foods are concentrated with salts, preservatives,

and coloring which has little to no nutritious value.

We live in a society that is lacking in nutrition and minerals because of the fast foods industry and the give it to me now syndrome.

The liquids we drink also have a big impact on our bodies.

Clean Water

Just because water looks clean does not mean that it is safe to drink.

Our municipal water systems put chlorine into the water to remove bacteria and other harmful elements. This is good, but it should be removed before consumption. When the water is saturated with bacteria, just add some more chlorine.

Chlorine is a known carcinogen (cancer causing agent), and was used in World War II to poison and kill the enemy.

Chlorine can easily be removed before drinking by using a simple carbon up flow filter or by distilling. A reverse osmosis will also remove all the foreign material in the water.

A UV(ultra violet) light will go further to remove pathogens. It will destroy 99.99% of harmful microorganisms without adding any chemicals to the water.

The contaminants are removed as the water passes through the UV water treatment system.

Ultra Violent light can kill viruses, Ecoli, salmonella, cholera, bacteria, coliform, flu, meningitis, dysentery, giardi, cysts, hepatitis, polio, and typhoid fever to name a few.

Soft Drinks

Soda drinks are also harmful to our bodies. Most contain many types of sugars and artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame, Splenda, and Sucralose.

Your kidneys work hard at eliminating a myriad of nasty toxins from the body.

A study done by the American Society of Nephrology in San Diego showed that women who drank two or more diet sodas daily resulted in a 30% reduction in overall kidney function.

These women had healthy kidney function at the beginning of this study.

Well water can also be contaminated with many elements.

Ecoli, a fecal coliform bacteria is a common bacteria found in wells, resulting from human or animal feces. Often, septic tanks are the culprit, from waste water leeching into the ground.

Fertilizers are another contaminant which is an overflow from farmland or homeowner yards.

Sometimes, wells contain arsenic, sulfur, aluminum, and other foreign matter.

Protect Yourself

Protect yourself from coliform bacteria in your well water.

Coliform bacteria is a group of microorganisms commonly found in soil, surface water, and on plants. They are also present in the intestines of animals and humans. Coliform bacteria can be washed into the ground by rain and usually filtered out as the water goes through the soil and into ground water systems.

Cracked or unsealed wells can allow coliform bacteria to enter ground water and contaminate your drinking water.

Water can travel for miles under ground, through aquifers such as veins, streams, and pools of water from below.

Why Is Detox And Cleansing Needed

What does all this have to do with Detox and cleansing?

There are precautions we should take to keep from subjecting ourselves to some form of illness.

Detox diets and cleansing diets can be harsh and leave you hungry and constipated caused by a lack of fiber.

There are natural ways of cleansing your gut.  Add more fiber to your diet. Fiber adds bulk, softens stools, and helps with gentle rhythmic contractions of the colon, which encourages elimination.

Both vegetables and fruits provide fiber, minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients(chemical compounds produced by plants, generally to help them thrive or thwart competitors, predators, and pathogens), that help fight and prevent disease.

Most people do not meet their quota of the daily requirement of vegetables and fruits.

Try to avoid added sweeteners.

A colon detox or colon cleanse can be a way of ridding the colon of toxins and lingering waste, undigested food, and mucus that has not been expelled from the body.  A buildup of toxins and waste can cause weight gain and sluggish feelings.

When waste is not properly expelled, it stays in the colon leading to health problems.

The Gut

A healthy gut is important to your wellness. You need good fiber to optimize your gut health. Eat a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, and foods rich in fiber often. Include 100% whole grains in your diet. Brown rice, oatmeal, millet and corn are a good choice. Flax seeds, wheat bran, and oats are a source of fiber.

Eat foods that contain probiotics, which has bacteria that is beneficial to the colon, foods such as yogurt and sauerkraut. A probiotic supplement can also be beneficial.

Fruits like strawberries, apples (old tale-an apple a day keeps the doctor away), and blue berries are high in fiber. Also, nuts, seeds, and beans are a good source. Eat vegetables with green leaves to add nutrients, such as spinach, kale, mustard, collard greens, peas, Brussels sprouts, and barley grass

Go light on the dairy products. Dairy products can lead to constipation.

Drink plenty of water and fruits, and veggies that contain a lot of water. The body is made up of about 60% water. Water is needed to help wash and clean out any bacteria that is in your gut. If you are a female, drink eight to ten cups of water daily. If you are a male, drink ten to fifteen cups of water daily.

Stay hydrated. If you are already thirsty, you are beyond being dehydrated. In order to make your water more tasty, add lemon or a herb of your liking. A good mixture is a glass of warm water, a squeezed lemon, and several pinches of Mediterranean sea salt. This will also aid in having a bowel movement.

We all need an exercise regimen. Exercise on a regular basis, every day if possible, and if not at least three times a week. A thirty minute brisk walk will do just fine. Physical activity stimulates the digestive system to increase bowel movement.

Healthy Colon

A healthy colon definitely yields good health.

Colon cleanse products should be determined based on it’s potential to clean the colon of harmful waste and toxins to promote better digestion and increase elimination, to improve our immune system, and to increase energy.
